The CSA’s founding members include the following clubs:
Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club in Eastlake at the mouth of the Chagrin River
Cleveland Yachting Club in Rocky River at the mouth of the Rocky River
Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland at Edgewater Park
Forest City Yacht Club in Cleveland west of E. 55th Street
Grand River Sailing Club in Fairport Harbor on the Grand River
Lakeside Yacht Club in Cleveland east of Burke Lakefront Airport
Mentor Harbor Yachting Club in Mentor
Clubs conduct the full gamut of sailing activities including club racing, cruising, junior sailing, sail camp, sailing lessons, and invitational regattas. They all engage in friendly rivalries and spirited competition between them, not only for enjoyment on the water, but also to build camaraderie among sailors. The end result is that sailing skills are honed and lifetime friendships are formed.
Each of the member clubs hold sailboat races throughout the summer. Clubs also hold one or more larger invitational regattas where boats from other clubs are invited to participate. The results of the invitational regattas are used to score the CSA boats in the Travel Series Championship.
CSA assists the member clubs in putting together their schedules of major regattas for the sailing season. By coordinating dates of regattas between all the clubs, conflicts are avoided and participation increases. CSA then helps to publicize the regattas by maintaining the schedule of events on this website and mentioning events on its Facebook page.
CSA also sponsors the CSA Travel Series Championship, the most prestigious of CSA’s events. Owners and skippers of sailboats wishing to test their mettle in an area-wide competition sign up to be participants in the Series. Then they travel from club to club over the summer to race in major regattas. In addition to competing against the boats in those regattas, the CSA boats compete against each other and then are scored separately by CSA. At the end of the season, the winningest boats of the CSA fleets are determined and given separate awards. First place in each class also gets the coveted Boat of the Year distinction.
