The Pin End   Volume II Number 1

March 1, 2010

21 Days to the vernal equinox and 73 days until the launch date of Vertical.  5 more pay periods to save for a quart of vc-17, and 57 days to remember my marriage anniversary. So much to look forward to. Not the least of which is the 2010 CSA Sailing Season.

CSA 2010 Pre Season Breakfast

In 2009 we started a tradition of the Pre Season breakfast. The tradition continues this year. Nick Turney of North Sails will be our featured speaker and enlighten the over flowing crowd with pearls of wisdom on effective sail trim, and the latest in new sail technology. Maybe you will win the door prize of a free consultation and coaching sail with Nick on your boat.

We also feature information about the CSA such as our series offerings, the revamped web site, schedule of events and retrospective images of last season by Dave Mathias. At the very least, plan to attend just to begin the psych-out process, err, and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow CSA sailors.

When: Saturday, April 17, 2010. 0900 hrs Speakers start at 1000 hrs.

Where: Edgewater Yacht Club

Cost: $12.00 if you want a great breakfast. No charge to listen to the speakers

Seating for breakfast is limited

Going Mobile

Although the Who did not play this song at this year’s super bowl halftime, the commodore has it stuck in his head. Look for CSA News and Results that are in a mobile friendly format. Clevelandsails.com/csam. It’s not pretty, but it works.

Boat of the Year Championship Series (BOTY)

Competing for the CSA Boat of the Year demonstrates your commitment to serious sail racing. Winning the honor elevates you and your program to an elite group of accomplished sailors that we are all proud of. Mister Ed earned Boat of the Year in 2009 with impressive wins throughout the season. Only one boat can win the Boat of the Year, but just competing for the honor helps make the CSA Boat of the Year one of the most sought after honors on Lake Erie.

Women’s and Double-handed Series

These series were a great success in 2009 and we look forward to an even better turn out in 2010. Spinnaker and JAM are available for both. If you can't participate in the CSA series you can enter for single events at the hosting regatta club.

South Shore Cruising Series

Does the sight of tetrahedrons or the non sight of the missing “A” mark on your club’s compass rose agitate you? Maybe a mile long leg doesn’t allow you enough time to get into a groove, like a full hoist on the main halyard, or eating lunch between starts gives you indigestion. Perhaps your sailing and exploring inspiration in life is derived from Ernest Shackleton.

The South Shore Cruising series has been expanded to 6 marquis races that are longer, fixed point races. CSA scores your best 3 races. Added this year is the Tom Gibbs Memorial Race, (Kelley’s Island leg), and the Indigo Race.

Year of the 80th

In 1930, sail racing mania swept over the south shore of Lake Erie from Lorain to Mentor, and maybe beyond. This year is the 80th anniversary of 4 major events.
