Remembering Tom Gibbs

Hi All,

Just wanted to pass along the sad news that last night, Sunday 29 March 2009, Tom Gibbs passed away.

As most of you know he'd been battling Multiple Myeloma for the past few years. Very recently he had come to peace with the end of the effectiveness of medicines that aided his battle. Over the course of the last few days Tom had in-home Hospice care and passed quietly with June at his side later Sunday evening.

Services etc are still being arranged but a Catholic Mass is likely for later this week. I will work to keep you informed or check the Plain Dealer Obits for news.

Many of you have heard me comment about how windy last sailing season was -- an exceptional summer for Cleveland weather. Most races were sailed with either the number 2 or 3 and sometimes a reef. With over four tons of displacement in the 28' Great Scot, we call that kind of weather "Great Scot Weather!" How appropriate that Tom's last summer of racing his beloved Bristol should be so blessed. Twice so as Tom was named "Sportsman of the Year for 2008" by the Cleveland Sailing Association. Quite a year!
